Sofitel Sydney Wentworth to undergo major refurbishment
The luxury hotel in Sydney’s city centre is about to undergo a $60 million upgrade.

The planned refurbishment comes after Sofitel Sydney Wentworth was acquired by three investment companies in late 2021 – KKR, Futuro Capital and Marprop Real Estate Investors.

The hotel is set to close for the first six weeks of work – from January 8, 2024, reopening in a limited capacity on February 17.

The refurbishment is set to be complete by the Australian Spring in 2024.

Architecture and interior design firm Fender Katsalidis will lead the revamp of the property, which will include all 436 rooms and suites, the lobby and the club lounge. The upgrade is also set to include a new dining precinct with new restaurants and bars.

Fender Katsalidis has worked on the likes of Mona in Tasmania and Midnight Hotel in Canberra.

“We are honoured to be a part of the refurbishment of the Sofitel Sydney Wentworth, an iconic landmark on the Sydney skyline,” said Karen Morris, associate principal at Fender Katsalidis.

“Our design vision is to revitalise the guest experience while preserving the hotel’s rich cultural and social heritage, re-establishing its position as a luxury hotel destination.

“We are excited to be part of this city-shaping project that will breathe new life and vibrancy into this part of Sydney.”

Sofitel Sydney Wentworth is located close to Circular Quay, The Domain and Sydney’s Botanic Gardens. The hotel also offers considerable meeting space, currently boasting 15 different venues for conferences and events.

“We are excited to reignite and add layers to the history of this landmark hotel,” said Sofitel Sydney Wentworth’s general manager, Sam Panetta.

“The repositioning of the Sofitel will enhance the luxury services on offer and reinforce the value of the brand.”
