Marriott International announces another Gold Coast property
A Luxury Collection resort from Marriott is on the cards for the Gold Coast in 2027.

The resort, to be known as Marina Mirage Gold Coast, will be located between Main Beach and the Sea World theme park on what is locally known as “The Spit”, a long finger of land with the open ocean on one side and water on the other.

Part of a mixed use redevelopment of a site owned by Makris Group, the new-build Marina Mirage Gold Coast will have 122 rooms and “expansive” event space, in addition to a signature restaurant, a rooftop bar and pool and a garden. The property will also have a day spa and wellness and beauty facilities.

“The reimagination of the iconic Marina Mirage precinct presents an inspiring opportunity to expand our luxury footprint on the Gold Coast – a market we know very well, after more than 35 years’ experience operating the city’s two leading resorts under our JW Marriott and Sheraton brands,” said Marriott International’s vice president of hotel development for Australia, New Zealand and the Pacific, Richard Crawford.

“The destination’s resilience during and post pandemic has been remarkable, and we are very confident that proven demand for high-quality hotel experiences will be a strong foundation for the success of our first Luxury Collection property on mainland Australia.

“Now present in more than 40 countries, each property in The Luxury Collection is a distinctive representation of its unique place in the world, so securing appropriate new footholds for the brand requires patience,” Crawford added.

“We were drawn to the Makris Group’s bold vision for the rejuvenation of their valuable waterfront site, and we are naturally thrilled that the family has selected The Luxury Collection as the brand for the hotel, a centerpiece of what is certain to be a destination-defining project.”

The announcement of the Marina Mirage Gold Coast is the latest in a line of luxury Marriott properties planned for the Gold Coast.

A Ritz-Carlton and a St. Regis are on the way for the Southeast Queensland destination, with both expected to debut in 2027.

The Ritz-Carlton is also set for The Spit, while a third Marriott property, Sheraton Grand Mirage Resort, Gold Coast has long been operating there already.

This is the second property under Marriott’s Luxury Collection brand in Australia. The first, The Tasman, opened in Hobart in December 2021.
