Macau on track to host 1,000 MICE events this year
The Macao Trade and Investment Promotion Institute (IPIM) is optimistically predicting some 1,000 business events for 2023. More than 700,000 people attended over 490 MICE events in Macau from January to June this year – double the entire number of events in 2022.

Events from September to December are expected to attract more than 400,000 attendees from fields such as finance, health, science and technology, tourism and sports.

“With priority placed on MICE events that facilitate the cultivation of the four major industries in Macao and key industries in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area, Macao has been endeavouring to introduce professional MICE events at the international and regional level, as well as from the Greater Bay Area,” said IPIM.

The region’s diversified economic development strategy covers four industries: scientific and technological research; traditional Chinese medicine; tourism, convention, and exhibition services; and modern financial services.

IPIM provides support services before, during and after events to organisers interested in hosting events in Macau. Its subvention includes financial aid and assisting event organisers to arrange activities in various local communities or different venues.

In the first half of 2023, more than 21,000 trade visitors took IPIM-customised tours related to their industries or enjoyed local festivals and major events.

IPIM formed a MICE bidding and support team this year with five local MICE associations and six integrated resorts. They collaborate on bidding plans to attract high-quality MICE events, tapping on each sector’s competitive edge and customer network.

With integrated resorts expanding their portfolios, such as the opening of W Macau – Studio City along with Andaz Macau and Raffles at Galaxy Macau, event planners have even more choices when organising business events.
