The changes come off the back of some significant purchases and business wins over the last few years.
These include Journey Beyond being appointed the operator of the new Monarto Safari Resort in regional South Australia in early 2025 and acquiring Voyages Indigenous Tourism Australia – now simply Voyages Tourism Australia – and therefore operation of Ayers Rock Resort at Uluru. The business has also entered into an agreement to acquire the SeaLink tourism portfolio, with the expectation that the transaction will complete in the first half of 2027.
The just-announced restructure at Journey Beyond will see the company split into three divisions – rail and touring, resorts and lodges and experiences and attractions.
Alongside this, Matt Cameron-Smith, current CEO of Voyages Tourism Australia, has been appointed chief commercial officer for the whole of Journey Beyond.
In terms of leadership of each of the three new divisions, the rail and touring division is led by David Donald, Journey Beyond’s existing executive general manager of rail, while talent is being sought through executive search company Hourigan to fill the other two managing director roles.
“As Journey Beyond continues to grow and evolve, it is essential that our organisational model and leadership structure are designed to support the significant growth ahead,” said Journey Beyond CEO, Chris Tallent.
“This new structure sees our individual brands and operations logically grouped into three aligned and larger business divisions to ensure we are focused on the areas that matter most for our long-term strategy.
“This transition supports more integrated, collaborative and best-practice ways of working and establishes a strong foundation for the further growth ahead for Journey Beyond.”
Other products and experiences within the Journey Beyond portfolio include The Ghan, the iconic train journey through Central Australia travelling between Adelaide to Darwin, Cruise Whitsundays, the Rottnest Express and accommodation experience offerings the eco-luxury safari camp on Ningaloo Reef, Sal Salis, and Reefsleep and Reefsuites out on the Great Barrier Reef.
