Journey Beyond identified as potential operator for Ayers Rock Resort
The owner of the resort has confirmed that it is in “exclusive discussions” with Journey Beyond to buy Voyages Indigenous Tourism Australia.

Voyages operates both the sprawling resort at Uluru as well as Mossman Gorge Cultural Centre in far north Queensland.

Ayers Rock Resort has a significant offering for both conferences and incentives, including accommodation, meeting space and unique experiences around the iconic rock formation in Australia’s Red Centre.

In Mossman Gorge, experiences like the Dreamtime Walks offer an authentic submersion into the natural landscape with a local Indigenous guide.

The land of both assets and Voyages Indigenous Tourism is owned by the Indigenous Land and Sea Corporation (ILSC), an Australian Government entity.

“The ILSC is now progressing with exclusive discussions with Journey Beyond for the sale of Voyages Indigenous Tourism Australia Pty Ltd,” said an ILSC spokesperson.

“These discussions are ongoing and at this stage there is no final binding agreement.

“Journey Beyond has grown now to be Australia’s leading and largest experiential tourism group and we believe they are the ideal potential partner, that presents us with the best opportunity to deliver on our primary objective – to fulfil our statutory obligations of returning land to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples, and in doing so, create benefit for Traditional Owners at both Yulara and Mossman Gorge Cultural Centre, as well as Indigenous people at a local, regional and national level.”

Journey Beyond already operates some of Australia’s most iconic tourism offerings, including The Ghan, the train which runs through Central Australia from Adelaide to Darwin, Cruise Whitsundays and the Reefsleep and Reefsuites experiences and luxury safari experience Sal Salis beside the World Heritage-listed Ningaloo Reef in Western Australia.

Earlier this year, the group also reached an agreement to operate the new Monarto Safari Resort within Monarto Safari Park in regional South Australia.

The ILSC first put Voyages up for sale in August last year.
