The latest hotel industry report shows the Gold Coast already has 450 accommodation providers and 21,000 rooms, but by the 2032 Brisbane Olympic Games, Experience Gold Coast CEO John Warn says the city needs another 5,500 hotel rooms.
While the exact details of which Olympic events will take place on the Gold Coast is yet to be announced, it is understood some aquatic events are likely to take advantage of the local beaches and waterways, adding further demand to a growing schedule of major events and business events.
During the recent British and Irish Lions rugby matches in Brisbane, thousands of fans stayed on the Gold Coast and travelled by bus and train to Brisbane.
On the heels of a successful business events showcase, This Is Gold Coast, two weeks ago, Warn noted that the Gold Coast, which stretches 57km along the coast, was in the midst of a building boom evidenced by at least 68 cranes on its skyline.
Accommodation Australia reports that there are at least 18 new hotel developments at various stages of planning and construction in northern, central and southern Gold Coast. Among them are not only global brands, including a St. Regis and The Ritz-Carlton, but a range of high-end boutique properties.
In the northern region Accommodation Australia identified Pandana South Stradbroke, a Movie World hotel, Palm Valley Golf and Surf Resort, Marina Mirage and The Ritz-Carlton Mariner’s Cove.
The report says central Gold Coast has Paradise Place, La Palago including the St. Regis, Lulo Hotel (with QT Gold Coast), Sebel Chevron Island, a hotel at Gold Cost Turf Club, Surfers Plaza Resort, Orion Towers and Seren on Garfield Terrace.
And the southern end of the city, which features the newly opened Mondrian Hotel and Residences from Accor and Ennismore, will also be home to The Landmark, Palm Beach Hotel, a North Kirra Beach project and Kirra Point.

There’s also The Star Gold Coast’s announced masterplan of four new towers adding a total of 3,000 hotel rooms and apartments including the first Hyatt Andaz in Australia with 202 rooms in a 65-storey tower.
With the Mondrian’s just-opened 208 rooms, the total new accommodation by the end of the decade with at least one year to the Games would be 4,642 – if all planned and approved developments proceed.
