A Marriott GM has made a move down south, while both Sofitels in Sydney have new faces within their leadership teams.

Steve Molnar to become multi-property GM in Melbourne

After more than a decade leading the Sheraton Grand Mirage Resort in Port Douglas, Steve Molnar has gone south to Melbourne to take up a multi-property general manager role.

In his new position, Molnar will oversee both the 189-room Melbourne Marriott Docklands and the 205-room AC Hotel, located just behind Melbourne Convention and Exhibition Centre (MCEC).

Molnar has been with Marriott International for 25 years, having joined the hotel group in 1999 as director of sales for Sheraton Noosa – now the Sofitel Noosa Pacific Resort.

New faces on leadership teams for Sydney Sofitels

Meanwhile, down in Sydney, both Sofitel properties in the city have new faces amongst their leaders.

At the 590-room Sofitel Sydney Darling Harbour, next door to Sydney’s convention centre, ICC Sydney, Courtney Lavender has been appointed director of conferences and events.

Lavender has been with Accor for almost nine years and was most recently associate director of sales for the Accor precinct of properties at Sydney Olympic Park, which comprises a Pullman, a Novotel and an ibis.

She has also previously worked at Sofitel Sydney Wentworth as association director of conferences and events.

“Courtney’s appointment reinforces our commitment to creating exceptional, world-class events with precision and elegance,” said Sofitel Sydney Darling Harbour’s commercial director, Tracey Carter Knox.

“Her expertise, leadership, and deep understanding of the Sofitel brand will be invaluable as we continue to elevate our events offering for clients and guests.”

At Sofitel Sydney Wentworth, there’s a new commercial director in the team, with Jayson Heron-Smith appointed to the role.

Heron-Smith has moved to the Sofitel from InterContinental Hayman Great Barrier Reef, where he was director of sales and marketing. Prior to his Sydney-based role with IHG, he spent more than four years with Langham Hospitality Group, working in sales and marketing roles for both Cordis Auckland and The Langham, Sydney.

“I am excited to join Sofitel Sydney Wentworth at such a transformative moment for the hotel,” said Heron-Smith.

“With its recent $77 million refurbishment, we have an incredible opportunity to strengthen our market share across the luxury leisure, corporate, and MICE segments.

“My focus will be on building strategic partnerships, driving revenue growth, and ensuring the hotel is recognised as one of Sydney’s most sought-after destinations for both guests and event partners.”
