Founder and managing director of Technical Direction Company (TDC), Michael Hassett, will receive his Lifetime Achievement Award at the Australian Event Awards ceremony in Coffs Harbour on October 21.
Hassett started TDC in 1981 and it has since been on the leading edge of the evolving technologies that produce increasingly immersive visual event effects. The company has worked across concerts, television and film, major events and corporate gatherings and installations, including for some of Australia’s biggest brands. Perhaps TDC’s most broadly visible work is on Vivid Sydney, which the company has contributed to for over 15 years.
After 45 years at the helm of TDC, Hassett still gets hands-on to create visual solutions for events the company is working on and has mentored the next generation throughout his career.
“Michael Hassett has helped shape the Australian events industry for more than four decades,” said managing director of the Australian Event Awards, Ian Steigrad.
“His commitment to innovation and his ability to push the boundaries of what’s possible have played a significant role in bringing some of Australia’s most ambitious events to life.
“Beyond his technical achievements, Michael’s dedication to sharing his knowledge and mentoring the next generation has left a lasting legacy across the industry.
“The Lifetime Achievement Award recognises those who have made an extraordinary contribution to our industry, and Michael is a truly deserving recipient.”
On October 21, winners across more than 30 categories recognising the best events, achievements and companies across the full scope of the Australian events industry will be announced at the Australian Event Awards ceremony. Hassett will receive his Lifetime Achievement Award as part of the celebrations of the industry’s best. Finalists for the Australian Event Awards were announced in August.
Previous recipients of the Lifetime Achievement Award at the Australian Event Awards include David Grant, Peter Rix, Harvey Lister, Lena Malouf, Roslyn McLeod, Meri Took, Peter Jones and Ignatius Jones.
