Te Puna Mahara Cromwell Memorial Events Centre, located a 45-minute drive from Queenstown in Central Otago, features an auditorium for 400 delegates in theatre, 500 standing or 220 for seated galas.
There is also a range of other smaller spaces in the venue able to host up to 200 attendees.
The new centre is located on the lakefront.
Showcasing the new centre at New Zealand’s business events trade show MEETINGS this week, the venue’s marketing lead, Annabel Roy, said it will provide a range of event spaces and services for small to large corporate and association groups that may not currently be served by facilities in Queenstown.
While Cromwell has about 200 hotel rooms at present, a site adjacent to the new centre has been ear-marked for a hotel development to serve the multi-day conference market.
Cromwell’s proximity to New Zealand’s adventure capital, Queenstown, with both domestic and international air access, will benefit event planners.
Te Puna Mahara will also incorporate a boutique cinema seating 40, plus exhibition space. In addition, it will house the local Cromwell museum, focused on the destination’s colourful history as a 19th century gold rush town.
Today, Cromwell is a popular tourist location surrounded by world-class wineries and a region famous for its scenic lake and mountain backdrops.
