Huge response received in Nyaal Banyul recruitment drive

Geelong’s soon-to-open convention centre has received almost 1,000 applications after advertising the first casual jobs at the venue.

More than 100 jobs are currently on offer at Nyaal Banyul Geelong Convention and Event Centre for customer service, chef and food service roles, as well as AV technicians and event set up and logistics roles.

Most positions are no longer accepting new applicants, due to the volume of interest already received, mostly from locals, with the exception of chef positions, which are still open and taking new applications.

However, the centre is anticipating a second round of recruitment, for roughly another one hundred staff, will take place around the time Nyaal Banyul opens.

“We are thrilled by the response from the Geelong community so far and excited to keep building our Nyaal Banyul team,” said the convention centre’s general manager, Rick Aylett.

“One of our main objectives as a new major venue has always been to create significant job opportunities for the Geelong community.

“Beyond jobs, Nyaal Banyul opens the door to genuine career pathways for people passionate about events, hospitality or AV production. I can’t wait to welcome more than 100 new team members.”

Located on the Geelong waterfront beside the already-open Crowne Plaza Geelong, Nyaal Banyul will offer 3,700m2 of event space, including a 1,000-seat plenary theatre, which can convert to flat floor, and a further 1,974m2 of exhibition space.

With major construction complete, the convention centre already has over 70 events secured and is set to open in July. A subvention fund, in the form of discounts for venue services, is also in play to attract more gatherings to Nyaal Banyul.

The first round of recruited staff will be involved in the pre-opening test events for the centre as well as the first events staged once Nyaal Banyul is officially open.
