Meet the new GM of The Langham, Sydney

Langham Hospitality Group has appointed Mitchell Turner as general manager for its 96-room Sydney hotel.

Turner moved over from another Sydney CBD property, The Porter House Hotel, where he was also GM, in January.

He has also spent time at both Sydney Sofitel properties, at Radisson Blu Plaza Hotel Sydney and with InterContinental Hotels Group in London, Sydney and Wellington.

Alongside its accommodation stock, The Langham, Sydney offers two event spaces, including a ballroom with capacity for up to 200 attendees. The hotel has recently taken on a new F&B partner in SRG Hospitality.

Klaus Kinateder joins Peppers Marysville Resort and Spa

Klaus Kinateder has been appointed GM of Peppers Marysville Resort and Spa in the Yarra Ranges, just outside Melbourne.

Kinateder has more than 20 years of experience, including 12 with Accor. He also spent more than six and a half years with St Giles Hotels in Sydney, primarily as the GM of the Tank Stream Hotel.

The 100-room property in Marysville offers space for events of up to 350 pax.

“The resort has proven particularly popular with local government groups, finance organisations and forestry preservation organisations,” said Kinateder.

“Car clubs and agricultural groups are also drawn to our expansive outdoor areas across 20 acres and our 120 on-site car spaces, which provide suitable space for vehicle displays, demonstrations and large-scale gatherings.”

National Media appoints Jono Whyman to senior role

The Queensland-headquartered exhibition organiser, National Media, has taken on Jono Whyman as its new portfolio director for its food, beverage and hospitality events.

Whyman joins the business from SXSW Sydney, where he was co-managing director. In January, it was announced that the multifaceted festival would not return, after a three-year run in Sydney, with Whyman and his co-leader, Simon Cahill, at the helm for its final year.

Prior to SXSW Sydney, Whyman spent more than a decade with global exhibition company Reed Exhibitions – now called RX.

“Jono is a major appointment for our business,” said National Media CEO, Brad Langton.

“He’s led at scale, built complex event platforms and delivered strong commercial outcomes.

“As we continue expanding our food, beverage and hospitality portfolio across events, content and digital services, Jono brings the leadership maturity and growth mindset to help accelerate the next phase.”

Whyman will oversee the likes of Food & Hospitality Week, which includes the Restaurant & Foodservice Show, the Pizza, Pasta & Italian Food Show, the Café & Coffee Show and RESTECH, alongside Food & Hospitality Queensland, digital content hub Restaurant Business and other digital services National Media offers to restaurants, foodservices businesses and hospitality operators.
