Western Sydney’s hero new cultural institution is 95 per cent complete.

The museum is expected to open late this year and will offer plenty for event organisers.

The institution will have a dedicated events and hospitality team and offers seven spaces for between 50 and 900 in various configurations.

Event spaces include a rooftop pavilion and garden for 200 cocktail or 150 in banquet, a theatre called the Vitocco Family Kitchen, with retractable seating and an ability to host cooking demonstrations for an audience of 200, a second, larger theatre space, also with retractable seating, which can banquet 550 or do theatre configurations for 900, a cinema that can seat 55 and a 650m2 flat floor space with 5.6m ceilings and plenty of natural light for dinners of up to 350 and theatre or standing events of 600. There is also an intimate space on level 6 with views and space for 50 standing or for banquets and a heritage ground floor space for small events of up to 60 banquet or 65 cocktail or theatre.

Powerhouse Parramatta will also come with some strong sustainability credentials, with the building deemed 6 Star Designed by the Green Building Council of Australia and set to run on 100 per cent renewable electricity.

“Construction of Western Sydney’s first state cultural institution, Powerhouse Parramatta, is now 95 per cent complete, marking a major milestone for this transformational project,” said the NSW minister for lands and property, Steve Kamper.

“Powerhouse Parramatta will be a game changer for our state and reflects the Minns Labor Government’s commitment to design excellence, innovation and sustainability in Western Sydney.

“Once complete, it will be the largest museum in NSW, offering 18,000 square metres of exhibition and public space and standing as a true cultural and architectural icon for Parramatta.

“The Minns Labor Government is proud to be delivering this world class institution, which will help drive the local economy, create jobs and attract millions of visitors to Western Sydney each year.”

Powerhouse Parramatta is a short walk from Parramatta Station and nearby hotels.
