The property occupies 10 floors within the 65-storey Queensbridge tower, 10 minutes’ walk from Melbourne Convention and Exhibition Centre.
The slim, triangular-shape, mixed-use tower is being likened to New York’s historic Flatiron building. But unlike the Flatiron, Queensbridge rises 209m on the southern edge of the CBD, promising uninterrupted 360-degree views.
The $150 million hotel was developed by Time & Place with MaxCap Group and Hickory Group as joint venture partners and TFE Hotels as the hotel operator under its Collection by TFE Hotels brand.
With interior design by Flak Studio, the hotel will offer colourful interiors and custom furniture.
“This site is incredible, and Hannah St will deliver an elevated and memorable hotel experience not only through the materiality and aesthetics of the design, but with the F&B and intuitive service on offer,” said Flack Studio founder, David Flack.
“We wanted to create a building that feels like it’s always been here. Something that’s part grand hotel, part underground bar, part cultural clubhouse – with spaces that feel layered and nostalgic, but completely of now.
“If you’d taken one of the grand buildings of New York and renovated it again and again over the decades – you’d end up with something layered, something refined. That’s what we’ve done here,” said Flack.
“It’s the definition of modern nostalgia. It feels old and contemporary – like the Chrysler Building.
“There is always a reverence in our work to spark memories, to take people somewhere they’ve been before, or somewhere they’ve always wanted to go.”
A key feature of the new hotel is The Clubhouse, with its 25-metre black and white lap pool, steam room, sauna and fitness centre, alongside co-working spaces, meeting rooms, breakout lounges and a private dining room.
The two conference rooms have a maximum capacity of 300 while there is also an indoor rooftop event space on the 10th floor with city views and adaptable meeting areas.
“We want intimacy, but we want action – venues sized for atmosphere and quality, not oversized spaces that feel empty,” said Time & Place director, Tim Price, of the hotel’s meeting spaces.
As part of the Collection by TFE Hotels, Hannah St Hotel sits alongside the award-winning Calile Hotel in Brisbane, Hotel Britomart in Auckland and The Eve Sydney.
