The hotel group operates the Copthorne Hotel and Resort Bay of Islands in Northland, which offers event space for up to 400 in theatre or 250 for a gala dinner, alongside 140 rooms and suites. The hotel is set within 60 acres overlooking the water.
After a difficult few years for the region that included long pandemic shutdowns, a cyclone, a tornado and weather damaged road infrastructure, Millennium has launched targeted marketing campaigns to draw meeting groups from across New Zealand, Australia and other international markets to Northland, which sits just above Auckland.
“Northland is one of New Zealand’s most visually stunning and culturally rich regions, but it has also been one of the hardest hit in recent years,” said Millennium’s vice president of sales and partnerships for New Zealand, Melanie Beattie.
“We believe the best way to support the region’s growth is by increasing visitation – filling hotel rooms and fostering collaboration with local businesses and creating sustainable economic opportunities.
“Our goal is to position the Bay of Islands not just as a top-tier holiday destination but also as a premier location for business events, conferences and retreats.”
Offering special packages for conference and events groups booking between May 1 and September 30, Millennium Hotels is collaborating with the region’s visitor economy ecosystem and broader community to deliver both curated experiences and a collective strategy to draw visitors.
“We know that a thriving tourism industry benefits everyone, from small business owners to local employees and communities,” said Beattie.
“By working together to put Northland and the Bay of Islands firmly on the map for business and leisure travellers, we can help create long-term economic stability for the region.”
Northland is already due to host 300 delegates for the Tourism Export Council of New Zealand’s annual conference in August. The group will be meeting at the Copthorne property.
