New GM for GCCEC alongside swathe of hotel appointments
The Gold Coast Convention and Exhibition Centre (GCCEC) has promoted from within to fill its vacant general manager position, following the departure of long-standing GM, Adrienne Readings.

Nick Jeffrey will be the new general manager of the centre, after acting in the role since Readings stepped away from the venue in the middle of the year.

Jeffrey has been with GCCEC for seven years and was the executive manager of corporate services before taking on the acting GM role.

He has more than 30 years of experience in hospitality, tourism and property, working in both listed and private companies.

As the year draws to a close, hotel groups have appointed and promoted to fill leadership roles.

Minor Hotels has appointed Mark Hodge as the cluster general manager for the Oaks Cypress Lakes Resort and the Elysia Wellness Retreat in the Hunter Valley.

Hodge spent a couple of years as general manager of hotels and residences at The Star Entertainment Group and has been on the board of Destination Gold Coast.

“We are delighted to welcome Mark to the Minor Hotels family,” said Minor Hotels Australasia COO, Craig Hooley.

“His esteemed record for steering hotels to success, commitment to empowering teams and innovative approach will be critical to the continuing evolution of these two flagship properties, and to the strategic direction of Minor Hotels more broadly in our region, and I am confident he will have a profound impact on our staff and our valued guests.”

In Melbourne, Oliver Kahf joined the Park Hyatt Melbourne as its new general manager in late November.

A native of Germany, Kahf has worked in hotels all around the world, including the Hard Rock Hotel in London, for Marriott International in the UAE and for major international hotel brands in India and the USA. Kahf has moved to Australia from San Diego to take the role.

TFE Hotels has two new faces across its Vibe hotels network, with Gabriel Polias joining their Darling Harbour property in Sydney as general manager and Brett Skinner coming onboard at the Adina-Vibe Darwin Waterfront as the GM there.

Polias has moved over from Ovolo Woolloomooloo where he was GM and has held other senior roles with Sofitel Sydney Darling Harbour and Marriott International. He also spent a number of years working in hotels in China.

Meanwhile Skinner is relocating to Darwin from the regional hub of Newcastle in New South Wales, where he was general manager at Novotel Newcastle Beach. He has worked across a variety of hotels over the past two decades including in the Northern Territory.

Also in the Vibe network, Aalap Rammurthy has been promoted to executive assistant hotel manager at Vibe Hotel Sydney, having been with TFE Hotels since 2016.

Enzinger was most recently director of rooms at Sofitel Sydney Darling Harbour.

TFE Hotels has also recently opened a country office in New Zealand, following its management deal with Heritage Hotels, which will see the business bring another five hotels, with more than 500 rooms, under the TFE brand.

Warwick Kahl has been tapped to lead the office as director of operations for New Zealand, after joining TFE Hotels in 2022 as the regional general manager for a large swathe of Australia and for New Zealand.
