South Australia’s premier Peter Malinauskas joined the ground-breaking ceremony yesterday in the centre of Adelaide.
Known as Crystalbrook Sam, the 13-floor Adelaide property will have 206 rooms and event space, alongside a pool, a food and beverage outlet and a rooftop spa.
The hotel is expected to be complete in 2026.
“This project marks an exciting and significant expansion for Crystalbrook into one of Australia’s fastest growing cities,” said Crystalbrook CEO, Geoff York.
“Adelaide is fast becoming a global destination and one of Australia’s leading tourism markets that offers exceptional food and wine, unrivalled nature experiences and a vibrant art and cultural scene.
“We believe this project will transform the site on Halifax Street and be a catalyst in adding to Adelaide’s growing status as a leading lifestyle destination,” he said.
While Samaras Group has worked on plenty of major projects, including convention centres, airports and hotels, this is their first full hotel development under their own name.
“Today is an important milestone as we commence construction on our first hotel development for the Samaras Group,” said the company’s CEO Chris Samaras.
“We have a deep personal connection with Adelaide, our home city, and we are passionate about bringing a world-class, luxury lifestyle development to South Australia.
“Crystalbrook Sam has been purposefully designed to celebrate the spirit of the local area while delivering something new and unseen that will excite locals and draw visitors to Adelaide.”
Entering the Australian market in 2018, with the launch of Crystalbrook Riley in Cairns, the Crystalbrook Collection now operates eight Australian properties, including three in Cairns, as well as properties in Brisbane, Byron Bay, Newcastle and two in Sydney, one of which is a “Crystalbrook Collection hotel in the making”.
Crystalbrook also has a Canberra property in development, expected to open in 2027.
