MEA opens its mentor program for 2024
Meetings and Events Australia (MEA) has opened the first of two rounds of its mentor program for 2024.

The current round will run April through June, giving 25 emerging talents in the events industry the chance to benefit from a more experienced event professionals.

Those wishing to be mentored must ben MEA members, but can be based anywhere in Australia, with an online platform helping to deliver the program.

“The Mentor Program offered by MEA represents a multifaceted investment in the future,” said MEA’s CEO Peter McDonald.

“By providing this service to those of our members seeking to enhance their skills, advance their careers and increase their value to employers, we enable them to achieve those objectives.

“Participants emerge from the program as improved versions of themselves, empowered to succeed both professionally and personally.

“Simultaneously, the program cultivates a more capable and skilled workforce, enhancing the industry’s resilience against potential risk factors that could otherwise undermine its stability,” said McDonald.

The program has a new supporter for 2024 in Lateral Event Management, which has a longstanding relationship with the association – its now chairperson, Simon Baggs, was previously the chair of MEA’s board and now oversees its awards program as chair of judges. Lateral’s current CEO, Megan Peters, has also been a MEA board member and chair of the NSW branch of the association.

“Lateral Event Management is enthusiastic about supporting MEA’s Mentor program for two main reasons,” said Baggs.

“The first being to support a program that uniquely harnesses the expertise of industry seniors for the benefit of up-and-coming MEA members. Providing precious insights, advice and mentorship on a one-on-one basis, the program nurtures the next generation of industry leaders.

“Secondly, the team at Lateral want to give back to the industry that has given us so much, and to do so in a way that encourages and facilitates the development of our industry for the future

“Lateral encourages mentors and mentees to participate fully in the MEA Mentor program. Doing so is an enriching experience for themselves, whilst concurrently being for the good of the industry overall.”
