Final CEO in place across The Star properties
The Star Entertainment Group has appointed Janelle Campbell as CEO of The Star Sydney.
Campbell has experience across the casino landscape both in Australia and in Macao, a well-known gaming destination. She has held various finance roles over 20 years across Conrad Treasury Casino and Jupiters Casino in Queensland and Melco Resorts & Entertainment in Macao. In the mid-2000s she was also the chief financial officer for Oaks Hotels and Resorts.
“Janelle has strong leadership skills, with experience in overseeing large scale operations managing teams of up to 1,200 and a great track record in developing and implementing strategic business plans,” said The Star’s group CEO and managing director, Robbie Cooke.
“During her time at Melco Resorts & Entertainment, Janelle oversaw the finance, supply chain and AML functions among other responsibilities.
“I look forward to working with Janelle on our ongoing transformation program at The Star Sydney as we pursue our No.1 objective of returning our Sydney casino to suitability.”
Campbell is the last of the CEOs to be selected to lead The Star’s individual properties, with Jessica Mellor promoted internally at The Star Gold Coast and the appointment of Daniel Finch to the top position at The Star Brisbane announced last week.
“I am excited to be joining The Star at a pivotal moment in the company’s history and to help shape the future for a venue that has been an iconic Sydney destination for almost 30 years,” said Campbell.
“I am clear on the strategic priorities, including the urgent focus on ensuring our remediation actions drive a return to suitability and the removal of the existing licence suspension.
“In parallel we need to ensure that building the trust and confidence of our regulators, guests, team members, other stakeholders and the broader community is always front of mind while building a culture of high-performance excellence.
“We want to be known for delivering world-class experiences and I’m looking forward to The Star Sydney shaping a successful future of sustainable long-term growth.”
Pending regulatory approvals, Campbell will start with The Star Sydney on February 25, 2024.
New chair for Business Events Adelaide
Ian Horne will chair the Business Events Adelaide board, replacing Jim Kouts, who has been at the helm of the board since 2017.
Horne has been a member of the Business Events Adelaide board since 2014 and was CEO of the South Australian branch of the Australian Hotels Association for 18 years, until mid-2023.
He also sits on the boards of Tourism Australia, Adelaide Venue Management Corporation, which operates Adelaide Convention Centre, and the South Australian Tourism Commission.
“We are very fortunate to have someone of Ian’s calibre ready to lead Business Events Adelaide into the future,” said Business Events Adelaide CEO, Damien Kitto.
“He is a highly regarded, connected and respected leader and having worked closely with Jim in refining Business Events Adelaide’s strategic vision, there is no one better placed to assume the position of chair.”
Kouts will remain as a director on the Business Events Adelaide board.
