Business Events Sydney CEO, Lyn Lewis-Smith is a passionate advocate of the city. Here she explains some of the reasons why she likes it so much.
Sydney is a city unlike any other, with something to suit every event budget, size and style. From the adventurous to the sophisticated, you can’t go wrong with Sydney as a destination that rewards, motivates and inspires.
Importantly, the city caters for both first-time and repeat visitors – our strong reputation for delivering beyond expectations is built on a track record of success. Our diverse, spellbinding city and country destinations provide the perfect backdrop to an expansive and ever-growing array of attractions, venues and team-building activities.
Within just 90 minutes of the CBD, delegates can find themselves immersed in landscapes as varied as they are spectacular: unspoiled, lush green rainforests, rugged mountain terrain and expansive bushland that’s home to working and hobby farms are juxtaposed with golden sand dunes, crystal blue waters and bustling global cityscapes.
Regional NSW offers its own unique group activities – from true blue Aussie farm experiences with horse riding, bush tucker, and up-close encounters with wildlife, to outdoor adventures such as tobogganing and quad biking, whale watching and winemaking.
For an inner-city cultural experience, you can’t go past a Toy Symphony at the Sydney Opera House. Guided by the renowned Sydney Symphony Orchestra, delegates can experience what it’s like to perform onstage at one of the world’s busiest performing arts centres using toy instruments – I don’t know of anywhere else in the world where you can do that!
Revel in the breathtaking and expansive views of the world’s largest natural harbour and the iconic Sydney Opera House from on top of the Sydney Harbour Bridge. Climbing these famous steel arches is undoubtedly one of the most memorable things you will do and the sheer enormity of the experience will leave you in awe and with lifetime memories.
In 2013, Sydney was voted the world’s best festival and events city for the third consecutive year – and for good reason! There is always something happening in Sydney and beyond the city limits, and our major event calendar allows for an authentic experience, at little or no cost.
The major event calendar includes annual highlights such as Vivid Sydney – the Southern Hemisphere’s largest festival of music, light and ideas, Sculpture by the Sea at Bondi Beach, Crave Sydney International Food Festival and the largest lunar New Year celebration outside of Asia.
Our dynamism and energy is a hallmark of our destination. If you just can’t decide what to choose from our long list of tried, tested and loved experiences, or if you just want to custom design your own stand-out program, BESydney can facilitate whole-of-city collaboration and genuine engagement to make just about anything possible.
With an extensive network of partners that span all levels of government, business and industry, BESydney can bring the city together to deliver truly unique, memorable and measurable incentive programs unlike any other destination in Australia.
In the last three calendar years, 85 events from Asia secured by BESydney have been held in NSW, contributing an estimated $186 million to the economy. To date this calendar year, BESydney has secured 28 Asian incentive events, worth almost $64 million. This includes the just-announced Pro-Health China Annual Conference 2014 mega incentive, which is estimated to be worth approximately $22.5 million and bring around 4500 delegates to the city.
BESydney is steadily increasing its share of the Asian business events market. Events secured have more than doubled, growing from 14 events in the financial year 2009/10 to 33 in 2012/13.
