Two conference wins for Western Australia
Perth will host the national emergency services conference in 2025, while Fremantle is set to host the local cruise industry.

The emergency services event, the 2025 Australasian Fire and Emergency Services Authorities Council (AFAC) conference, is expected to see thousands of delegates gather in Western Australia’s capital.

The conference is being co-hosted by the state’s Department of Fire and Emergency Services and the Department of Biodiversity, Conservation and Attractions.

Leaders from emergency agencies from across the country are expected to present at the event.

“To host AFAC25 in our state is a fantastic opportunity to showcase WA and to network, share ideas, acquire new skills and to learn about how to build safer and more resilient communities in the future,” said WA’s emergency services minister Stephen Dawson.

“Having also secured hosting rights to the World Police and Fire Games in 2027, this will be another tremendous opportunity to profile WA’s expertise in emergency management.”

WA last hosted the event in 2018. The state’s emergency services commissioner Darren Klemm said the event was crucial for the industry and the community.

“Emergency services around the world continue to be challenged by ever changing climatic conditions and presented with new opportunities in the digital age,” said Klemm.

“Collaboration and knowledge sharing across our industry is essential to our mission of keeping communities safe.

“This knowledge sharing through workshops and presentations is a critical step in developing comprehensive and strategic planning for the challenges that lie ahead.”

Meanwhile, Fremantle will host the Australian Cruise Association conference and AGM in 2025.

Around 150 leaders from the nation’s cruise industry are expected to attend the event.

Fremantle has WA’s busiest port. In 2022-2023, the cruise industry was worth $333.5 million to Western Australia.

“Hosting this prestigious conference is another fantastic opportunity to showcase our state and cruise industry to key leaders from across the country and keep building on what we’re achieving,” said WA’s tourism minister, Rita Saffioti.

“We really look forward to welcoming delegates to Fremantle next year and discussing current and future opportunities within the sector, while of course showcasing our world-class cruise and broader tourism offerings.”
