Two Australian hotels and an Australian city make international best of lists
Two Australian hotels and a New Zealand property have made the cut in Condé Nast Traveler’s annual Readers’ Choice Awards, as has an Australian city.

On the 50 best hotels list, the Park Hyatt Auckland just made it, ranked 49th, while The Ritz-Carlton Melbourne came in at 41.

The hotels list was topped by The Lodge at Bodega Bay in California.

Amongst the world’s 50 best resorts, Southern Ocean Lodge on Kangaroo Island came in 29th.

The property was destroyed in the 2019-2020 bushfire season and only reopened in December last year after a comprehensive rebuild by owners Baillie Lodges.

“Seeing Southern Ocean Lodge return to the top of the Condé Nast Readers’ Choice list after the significant project of her rebuild is especially poignant,” said Baillie Lodges’ chief operating officer, Craig Bradbery.

“We really set out to return the magic of the original Southern Ocean Lodge to the wildly beautiful clifftops of Kangaroo Island for our guests, and it’s on receiving accolades like the Condé Nast Traveler Readers’ Choice Awards that bring with it the endorsement of the world’s most dedicated travellers that we have the sense that we have been successful in our mission.

“It’s an ongoing commitment of course on behalf of the whole team. We’ve had an incredible chance to recreate Southern Ocean Lodge, ready for the next generation of traveller and a sustainable future,” he said.

The global resorts list was also topped by a Californian property – L’Horizon Resort & Spa in Palm Springs.

Meanwhile, on the list of the top 10 big cities, Sydney came in at number three, beaten only by Singapore and Tokyo, which came in at number two and number one respectively.

More than 575,000 votes were cast in 2024 Condé Nast Readers’ Choice Awards.
