After coming in third last year, MCEC took home gold for the 2025 awards, ahead of Cairns Convention Centre, which took silver, and Darwin Convention Centre, which claimed bronze.
For the 2024 awards, Peppers Silo Hotel in Launceston, Tasmania, won gold, Darwin Convention Centre received silver and MCEC the bronze.
“We’re thrilled to be acknowledged on the national stage as Australia’s best venue for business events,” said MCEC chief executive, Natalie O’Brien AM.
“MCEC is a gateway for people to experience Victoria, and I’m immensely proud that we reflect Melbourne in every aspect, from sweeping views of the Birrarung and CBD to our menu showcasing Melbourne’s vibrant food culture.
“This award reflects the dedication and professionalism of MCEC’s wonderful team to deliver excellent customer experiences. It’s an honour to be nominated amongst some of Australia’s best venues.”
In the 2024-2025 financial year, MCEC hosted 714 events and 3.2 million visitors.
The state and territory winners who became national finalists from other Australian regions were Adelaide Convention Centre for South Australia, Crown Perth for Western Australia, Hotel Realm for the national capital and ICC Sydney for New South Wales.
At the Australian Business Events Awards in December, Adelaide Convention Centre won best convention centre, while Melbourne Cricket Ground won best non-convention centre venue.
