Local and international awards for the business events industry in Australia and New Zealand
A variety of business events stakeholders have won awards in Australia and around the world.

Event Travel Management’s win at the 2023 National Travel Industry Awards

Event Travel Management (ETM) has scooped the Most Outstanding Business Events Travel Agency category at the 2023 National Travel Industry Awards, run by the Australian Travel Industry Association.

“ETM is honoured to be named ‘Most Outstanding Business Events Travel Agency’ for the 7th time,” said ETM’s global strategic lead and general manager for Australia and New Zealand, Tracey Edwards.

“We are incredibly proud of the work our team do to ensure our clients’ events are successful, and we value the partnerships we have across our supply chain. Celebrating with our fellow finalists and the greater travel industry on the night was amazing.”

ETM’s parent company, Corporate Travel Management (CTM) also took home two categories, Most Outstanding Global Travel Management Company and the sustainability award for a travel business.

Tourism New Zealand’s ICCA win

Tourism New Zealand’s “If you seek” business events campaign took home the ICCA Best Marketing Award at the ICCA (International Congress and Convention Association) Congress in Bangkok in November.

The humorous campaign targeted international organisers looking for a business events destination that was “far from generic” and was based on Tourism New Zealand’s global leisure campaign of the same title.

“It’s a huge achievement to win this award and the judges faced a difficult choice,” said ICCA CEO, Senthil Gopinath.

“But everyone was captivated by the storytelling of how TNZ takes the delegate out of the meeting space and into the heart and soul of the community.

“The idea of being somewhere that speaks to you from the outside is so evocative, and quite moving. This concept was brought to life visually, at trade shows across the world, and here in the Congress hall.”

Te Pae Christchurch wins international sustainability award

Te Pae Christchurch, the first of New Zealand’s new generation of convention centres to debut, has won the Community and Government Projects category of the 2023 Skål International Sustainable Tourism Awards, which are held with the support of the United Nations’ World Tourism Organization.

“This award is a credit to the entire Te Pae Christchurch Convention Centre team and their commitment to foster a culture of environmental excellence,” said Te Pae Christchurch’s general manager Ross Steele.

“Sustainability is a key operational pillar for Te Pae Christchurch and an area our whole team is passionate about. We view all significant decisions through an environmental lens and are driven to provide world class sustainable convention centre operations, creating meaningful change for future generations.”

The convention centre has a 5-star green rating and the business holds Toitū Enviromark Gold certification. The venue management team is also aiming to be carbon neutral by the middle of next year.
