EarthCheck is one of the major players in sustainability certification for the travel and tourism industries. Master certification represents 15 years of continuing improvement in sustainable practices.
GCCEC has an overarching sustainability policy and has implemented waster and reduction processes for the venue, in addition to having energy saving equipment. The centre also uses compostable products, has a green team who help drive and deliver the sustainability agenda around the venue and offers event organisers a green event checklist.
“GCCEC has taken a significant leadership position in helping to deliver sustainable and responsible events and meetings and was recognised leader in this field,” said CEO and founder of EarthCheck, Stewart Moore.
“EarthCheck Master Certification requires a dedication to the highest standards of environmental and social care and is the highest accolade that can be awarded under the EarthCheck program. Importantly it is not an easy task, it takes the commitment of the whole team to deliver improved operational results across the business.”
GCCEC’s general manager Adrienne Readings said she was thrilled the convention centre had achieved master certification status.
“Our industry plays a pivotal role in driving awareness and change in environmental practices
“This achievement reflects our dedication to taking a leadership position in driving a greener, more responsible future for the events industry.”
GCCEC is just behind Adelaide Convention Centre, which last month became the first convention centre in the world to achieve master certification.
