Collingwood gets upmarket apartment hotel from Veriu
Suburban hotel development continues with the opening of a 95-room Veriu hotel in inner-suburban Collingwood, less than 4km from the Melbourne city centre.

The former working class suburb with its famous Magpies AFL club, has undergone significant gentrification as small factories and workshops have made way for warehouse apartments and professional suites popular with creatives.

With an eye to meetings and events opportunities in light of city office downsizing, the new Veriu property includes a 40m2 meeting room, setup as a boardroom for 12.

Each of the hotel’s suites includes a fully equipped kitchen with oven, dishwasher, cooktop and laundry. Some rooms also include a balcony or garden with outdoor furniture.

Décor reflects the history of the suburb, with a New York feel generated by the public spaces, the furniture and artwork, likely to find favour with the digital natives. Also tapping into the long stay, new-exec-in-town market, Veriu is filling a vacancy in the area for hotels and serviced apartment accommodation. And if this is your temporary home, ready access to dining is an important feature of the neighbourhood.  Veriu Collingwood is within walking distance of some of Melbourne’s most eclectic international cuisines, cafes, wine bars and pubs.

Veriu also offers the usual hotel amenities – a rooftop pool and bar offering views across the city and onsite restaurant, plus a gym and secure parking.

Veriu, which also owns the Punthill brand, partnered with Gurner Group to develop the property, which also includes some upmarket residential apartments.
