BESydney CEO receives King’s Birthday honour
On the brink of her departure from the organisation, BESydney CEO Lyn Lewis-Smith has been named in the King’s Birthday Honours.

Lewis-Smith was awarded a Medal of the Order of Australia (OAM) over the long weekend, as one of 830 Australians recognised.

Somewhat ironically, after playing a pioneering role in championing the beyond tourism benefits of business events, Lewis-Smith was officially recognised for contributions to the tourism industry, with no mention of business events.

After more than 12 years at the helm of BESydney, Lewis-Smith will depart the organisation this month. Her replacement, Amanda Lampe, starts on Monday.

Lewis-Smith has previously sat on the board of the Committee for Sydney and the now-defunct Association of Australian Convention Bureaux. She is also currently a board member of Destinations International.

Two others connected to BESydney were recognised in the King’s Birthday Honours, with BESydney Ambassadors Professor Jennifer Westacott AO receiving an additional Companion of the Order of Australia (AC) title and Sally Loane receiving a Member of the Order of Australia (AM).

Loane is also the chair of the state’s tourism agency, Destination NSW.
