Asian venues tap industry partners to enhance product offers
Amid growing competition among Asian cities for MICE events and between their venues to host them, some convention and exhibition centres are partnering with hotels in their vicinity or even beyond to offer event organisers and participants more attractive rates and perks.

Some venues, such as Marina Bay Sands (MBS) in Singapore, have even added attractions to its partnerships under its Bay Precinct Strategy.

Its alliances comprises 12 hotels (including MBS) with more than 8,000 rooms, 10 world-class attractions around Marina Bay and the civic district alongside restaurants with a collective 18 Michelin stars.

“Our Bay Precinct network continues to grow in strength as we deepen collaborations. We look forward to attracting more international events this year and demonstrating how the strategy elevates the overall experience for delegates,” said Ong Wee Min, MBS vice president of sales and MICE.

While Suntec Singapore counts the six hotels surrounding it as “Preferred Partners”, Singapore EXPO in the east has enlisted 23 four- and five-star hotels around the island to give exclusive rates and packages under its EXPO Advantage Program.

In Malaysia, the Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre (KLCC) KLCC Business Events Alliance includes leading hotels, Malaysia Airlines and lifestyle and entertainment establishments.

“This alliance offers meeting planners and event organisers a single point of contact and serves as a powerful platform to promote the KLCC precinct as a global event destination,” said KLCC.

Surrounding hotels Mandarin Oriental, Traders Hotel and Impiana KLCC offer special rates when KLCC is bidding for events. Once confirmed, many international events then feature the hotels on their event websites for delegates’ convenience and choice.

Queen Sirikit National Convention Center (QSNCC), Bangkok’s largest convention centre, offers the QSNCC Hotel Partnership Program. It includes many hotels within 5km to 10km of the venue.

Designed to suit event organisers and attendees, benefits include special room rates, shuttle transfers and public transport passes.

QSNCC even has hotel partners beyond Bangkok offering accommodation discounts so that delegates can enjoy more of Thailand’s attractions pre- and post-event.

Centara Grand and Bangkok Convention Centre work with several five- and four-star hotels nearby, including Grand Hyatt Erawan, Siam Kempinski, InterContinental, Amari Watergate, Moxy and Novotel Siam to offer good rates for MICE delegates.
