BCEC marks 30th anniversary with $30k donation
Brisbane Convention and Exhibition Centre (BCEC) has donated $30,000 to local charities.

The charities, based in the South Bank precinct where the venue is located, support the homeless and vulnerable.

Housing, healthcare and safety advocates, Micah Projects, Orange Sky Laundry, which provides laundry and showering facilities for those in need, and Community Friends, which provides food relief and essential supplies, are the three charities receiving BCEC’s donation.

The charities were chosen by the centre’s corporate responsibility team.

The collective donation comes from BCEC’s participation in the Containers for Change initiative, which pays a small amount for each container recycled through the program. Through both front of house and back of house collections, BCEC recycles hundreds of thousands of containers each year.

“Reaching 30 is a milestone we’re proud to mark by giving back,” said BCEC’s general manager, Kym Guesdon.

“These contributions honour the community that has supported us for three decades and reflect the values that continue to guide the centre.”

This celebratory donation is just one of a significant collection of charitable activities and giving initiatives at BCEC.

Every year the centre donates to local charities from its Containers for Change revenue, in addition to raising funds and donating skills and time throughout the year to support various causes.

BCEC team members have just participated in Movember and AusMusic T-Shirt Day, while the venue has recently partnered with TradeMutt, to raise awareness for men’s mental health.

The venue’s support for charities ramps up around Christmas especially, as BCEC’s chefs cook for vulnerable groups during the festive season.

This weekend, BCEC will host the Salvation Army Christmas Lunch, providing a Christmas celebration with all the trimmings, including Santa and a band, for around 400 families at the centre.
