The 726-room Royal Orchid Sheraton Riverside Hotel Bangkok has extensively renovated its event facilities. The work covered 22 meeting spaces occupying more than 2,800 m2 – all on the same level, with natural daylight and overlooking the Chao Phraya River.
The Royal Orchid Sheraton Ballroom, divisible into three, seats 1,150 delegates theatre style or 540 in classroom configuration and 650 at banquets. Its 22m LED screen is scalable.
The Riverside Ballroom takes 320 delegates in theatre seating or 300 in banquet clusters. Its flexible design allows splits into seven rooms for smaller events.
“We are confident our newly renovated MICE facilities will establish us as one of Southeast Asia’s leading hotels for meetings and events,” said David Lance, general manager of Royal Orchid Sheraton Riverside Hotel Bangkok.
He added that the hotel is offering Marriott International’s recently introduced ‘Connect Responsibly’ tool for event organisers.
It provides a meeting impact report, calculating the carbon footprint of each event and highlighting the sustainable practices. Emissions can be offset by purchasing carbon credits for a range of environmental projects in association with Marriott’s partner, South Pole, or the client’s preferred partner.
“We eliminated single-use plastic bottles throughout the hotel and single-use plastics in rooms. We now use 100 per cent cage-free eggs, are moving to crate-free pork and sustainable seafood, and are committed to reducing food waste by 50 per cent by 2025,” Lance said.
Any of the hotel’s four restaurants may be booked for exclusive events. To engage with the local community, groups may take the shuttle boat to ICONSIAM and attractions across the river, or join early-morning cycling or heritage walking tours.
Meanwhile, Centara Grand & Convention Centre at CentralWorld Bangkok recently completed renovation which focused on the ground floor, where the café and lobby lounge areas were integrated. The main lobby on Level 23 also features a new bar.
Centara is tapping its ISO and Global Sustainable Tourism Council certifications to win more business events.
“By adopting sustainable and green practices, Centara is actively choosing to be more aware of its environmental impact and aligning its values and vision for a more mindful and ecologically conscious future,” the hotel chain said.
Earlier in September, the totally rebuilt Dusit Thani Bangkok reopened with 257 rooms – half its original capacity – with an added 5,000 m2 of meeting and event space, including one of Bangkok’s largest ballrooms, featuring a dramatic 8m ceiling and a panoramic view of Lumpini Park.
Sustainability is a core focus for Dusit, and this commitment is reflected in the new hotel’s design and operations.
