Leaders from Singapore, Malaysia, Thailand, Vietnam, Indonesia, Laos, Brunei, Cambodia, the Philippines and Timor-Leste were in attendance, alongside Australian Prime Minister, Anthony Albanese.
Combined with media, diplomats, academics, other officials and the layers of support staff required to stage the event, from police to venue staff, more than 6,500 people required accreditation to enter Melbourne Convention and Exhibition Centre (MCEC) where the event was being held.
The venue was closed to the public for the duration of the event.
Australian company EventsAir worked with the ASEAN Task Force to manage accreditation of all attendees in the lead up to the event and onsite on event days.
More than 10 EventsAir staff have worked on the project since the middle of last year.
“EventsAir is a very critical part of the security and accreditation infrastructure of an event like the ASEAN-Australia Summit,” said EventsAir CEO, Chris Ridd.
“We were very pleased that everything ran so smoothly and the on-site team, supported by our partner Touchpoint, did a fantastic job.
“On-site we provided photo ID security passes to all attendees which had a radio-frequency identification (RFID) mechanism embedded in them, allowing us to be able to rapidly validate attendees as they entered the MCEC and accessed restricted areas.
“Prior to entering the building, ASEAN attendees walked through RFID gates or were scanned by mobile RFID readers and their bona fides [credentials] were instantly confirmed. This was all managed through the EventsAir platform.
“The ASEAN-Australia Summit was Australia’s largest meeting of world leaders held in Australia in the past five years and it was a privilege to be able to support the ASEAN Task Force and provide our deep major event expertise to ensure that the registration, data processing, and venue access control ran smoothly.
“And, from a technical standpoint it was flawless,” said Ridd.
The summit generated multiple statements of renewed collaboration and a vision for the future shared by Australia and ASEAN nations.
