Purposely sited along the Sydney to Melbourne corridor, Albury is seen as a hub for both government and corporate business and while Punthill Albury will offer its usual longer stay apartments, the build also includes a ground floor welcome space and two conference rooms.
The hotel is scheduled to open late next year and has 83 rooms including studios and one, two and three bedroom premium apartments that Veriu Group believes are needed in the regional city on the Victoria-New South Wales border.
Other facilities include a full kitchen, in-room laundry, gymnasium, guest pantry and secure on-site parking.
Marking the official groundbreaking in Dean Street, Albury, Veriu Group CEO, Zed Sanjana, said: “Strategically we’ve always sought to grow the Punthill portfolio by opening in locations supported by major sources of corporate room night demand.
“Albury is a major regional hub that continues to see strong demand for modern, flexible accommodation.”
He said Punthill Albury was in the central CBD and provided the luxuries of a hotel with the convenience of flexible living spaces within the apartment design required by both corporate and leisure guests.
Albury, which sits in a region of more than 100,000 residents, is currently undertaking a $400 million infrastructure program across transport, health and urban development. This includes a $39.5 million redevelopment of the convention wing at the Albury Entertainment Centre, expansion of Albury Airport and upgrades to water and wastewater treatment facilities.
Veriu currently has five other properties under construction in Shepparton, Adelaide, Ryde, Epping and South Yarra. It has six open properties in Sydney, two in Melbourne and a further 15 Punthill properties operating in Melbourne.
Veriu Group has announced an ambitious target to operate 80 hotels across Australia.
