The new partnership arrangement will see Wellington host the next three iterations of a trifecta of Tech New Zealand events – FinTechNZ Hui, Digital Trust Hui Taumata and the Aotearoa AI Summit.
The fintech and digital trust events will take place annually in Wellington in 2026, 2027 and 2028, while the AI summit, which takes place once every two years, will be held in Wellington in 2026, 2028 and 2030.
The collaboration underscores how both organisations view events as a catalyst for sector growth.
“We know business events play an integral part in driving knowledge sharing and collaboration in key sectors,” said Irette Ferreira, manager of Business Events Wellington, which is part of WellingtonNZ.
“Hosting these events will strengthen those connections and accelerate the local tech sector, fostering job creation, entrepreneurship and global market growth.”
Tech New Zealand’s strategic programmes director, Yvonne Gill, echoed this sentiment, calling these meetings “key moments of confluence that build knowledge, forge partnerships and supercharge growth”.
“We look forward to seeing this impact play out in our nation’s capital,” said Gill.
Aligning with Wellington’s strategy for the tech sector, the three events are being supported by Wellington tech organisations as well as by WellingtonNZ’s innovation hub, Creative HQ.
“These conferences will lift capability and strengthen connections across Wellington’s tech ecosystem,” said Creative HQ’s general manager of startups and the tech sector, Colm Kearney.
“By bringing the community together around entrepreneurship, innovation and tech, they’ll help spark new ideas and support companies and jobs for Wellington.”
Through Business Events Wellington, WellingtonNZ first established a collaboration with Tech New Zealand in 2022 when it signed a multi-year agreement to host the inaugural three editions of the Life Sciences Summit for its BioTechNZ community.
Earlier this year, the Life Sciences Summit partnership with Wellington was extended, with the next three events, in 2026, 2027 and 2028 to be held in the New Zealand capital.
“This agreement will extend our relationship and bring additional conferences to the city in a mutually beneficial arrangement to build these tech events as fixtures in Wellington,” said Ferreira of the new collaboration between the destination and Tech New Zealand.
