UFI, The Global Association of the Exhibition Industry, has opened applications for its emerging leaders program for 2026.

The global Next Generation Leadership Programme accepts just five participants each year and combines a group challenge with leadership development and networking opportunities.

This year’s challenge or ‘mission’ will be to explore how exhibitions can stay relevant to the next generation – young Millennials and Gen Z.

Australians have taken part in past iterations of the this next gen program which is now in its 10th year. Successful Australian applicants have included Lesley Gurney from ICC Sydney and Amy Saleh from Hannover Fairs Australia.

“Changing audience expectations present both a challenge and an opportunity for exhibitions,” said UFI’s managing director and CEO, Chris Skeith OBE.

“Through the NGL Programme, I encourage organisations to support strong talent and invite ambitious professionals to contribute ideas that will influence the future of exhibitions.

“Being part of the NGL Programme is widely regarded as the experience of a career, creating lifelong friendships and a powerful network that benefits both the individual and their organisation.”

The seven-month program includes an in-person workshop for the program’s participants at the UFI European Conference in  İzmir in Turkey in early June, regular catch-ups with other participants, the opportunity to interact with exhibition industry leaders and experts and a group project centred on the 2026 mission, which culminates in a presentation at UFI’s global congress, taking place in Bahrain in early November.

To be eligible to participate, applicants must have been in the exhibition industry less than 10 years and have the support of their company.

“One of the best parts of the NGL Programme is watching emerging leaders dive into real industry challenges and make them their own,” said UFI president, Panittha Buri.

“Every year brings fresh ideas and bold thinking, and we can’t wait to see how this group reimagines relevance for the audiences of tomorrow.”

Applications are open until March 25 and can be completed here.
