The StandardX, Melbourne has 125 rooms and two street frontages in Melbourne’s trendy inner-city suburb of Fitzroy.
Originally expected to open earlier this year, the hotel has confirmed an opening date of August 8.
With another hotel planned in Bangkok, The StandardX is a new brand globally, described as the ‘rebellious younger sibling of The Standard’.
The hotel has a big emphasis on style and features interiors by Melbourne firm Hecker Guthrie as well as artworks by Melbourne artists Sarah Smalltown and Dane Lovett. The hotel’s elevated loft on the ground floor also offers custom furniture and antique pieces.
While it has no dedicated meeting spaces, the hotel is taking group enquiries for events and group stays.
The hotel will open with an all-day Thai restaurant onsite called BANG with a focus on local produce.
Aside from the restaurant, the hotel has a dining space called The Roof, offering flavours of Mercado Medellin, the famous street market in Mexico City. The rooftop space is exclusive to hotel guests.
The Standard hotel brand is relatively young: the first hotel opened in Hollywood in 1999, with some high profile backers including Leonardo DiCaprio and Cameron Diaz.
The original Standard hotel closed in 2021, due to an unsustainable rent increase.
The StandardX Melbourne is located close to event venue the Royal Exhibition Building.
