The Australian Event Awards is the only countrywide program recognising the full scope of the national events industry – from major public events and festivals to all types of business events, alongside the suppliers and companies that service the events industry. Founded in 2009, it also the longest running of any current awards program in the events industry.
“The Australian Event Awards is more than a celebration – it’s a powerful platform for destinations to connect with the people shaping the future of events in Australia,” said managing director of the Australian Event Awards, Ian Steigrad.
“It’s also a unique opportunity for destinations to actively attract future events, by showcasing their capability directly to national decision-makers.”
The awards ceremony typically takes place in October or November, with November 8, 2028, October 24, 2029 and October 23, 2030 touted as possible dates for the hosting period currently open for expressions of interest.
Since its founding, the awards have been held around Australia, including in Sydney, Perth and the Sunshine Coast. This year, the awards will be held for a second of three years in Coffs Harbour in regional New South Wales.
Convention bureaus, state and territory tourism organisations, venues and local councils are all encouraged to submit EOIs to host. Consortium bids will also be accepted.
The initial expression of interest period will close at 3pm AEST on May 29, 2026. Documents pertaining to the hosting opportunity can be found here.
