Subvention funding announced for Geelong’s new convention centre
Major subvention funding in the form of discounts has been announced for associations and corporates that bring their events to Nyaal Banyul Convention and Event Centre, due to open in July 2026.

Event organisers can receive up to $60,000 per event in discounts to event services provided by the convention centre.

The discount will be calculated at $100 per delegate for single-year events and $120 per delegate for events that sign multi-year contracts with Nyaal Banyul.

To be eligible for a discount, events must be at least two days long and have a minimum of 250 in-person delegates, 30 per cent of which must be from outside of Victoria.

Event organisers must also be considering venues outside of the state in order to be eligible for Nyaal Banyul’s subvention funding.

Events taking place up to June 30, 2030 will be considered for the discount program.

“Nyaal Banyul is poised to be a gamechanger for Geelong’s tourism industry and this new program will help maximize the benefits from the moment it opens its doors in July next year,” said Victoria’s tourism, sport and major events minister, Steve Dimopoulos.

Natalie O’Brien AM, the chief executive of the Victorian Convention and Event Trust that will operate the venue, called the subvention initiative “a fantastic incentive for event organisers to experience all that Nyaal Banyul has to offer”.

Once it opens next year, the $450 million Nyaal Banyul will feature 3,700m2 of event space including a 1,000-seat theatre on the Geelong waterfront.

The Crowne Plaza Geelong is being built in the same precinct as the convention centre.
