Recruitment blitz for Geelong’s new convention centre

Several key roles for the Nyaal Banyul Geelong Convention and Event Centre are on offer ahead of the venue’s opening next year.

The Victorian Convention and Event Trust (VCET) – previously the Melbourne Convention and Event Trust – has announced it will be recruiting for 12 positions at the new convention centre within the next three to four months.

Roles include executive chef, event and venue operations manager, marketing specialist and sales executives. Some of these roles are already open for applications via the centre’s website.

Those appointed to these roles will be key to setting Nyaal Banyul’s reputation as Australia’s newest convention centre and one of only a handful of major regional centres.

“These new roles will be pivotal in shaping the identity and energy of Nyaal Banyul – enthusiasm, creativity and a customer-first attitude are the core traits we’re looking for,” said the venue’s general manager, Rick Aylett, who was appointed to his role last October after being the convention centre’s project director since 2022.

“While we’ll be benefiting from VCET’s 30 years of experience, as a local team we’ll be taking on a ‘start-up’ mentality.

“Outstanding customer experience is at the heart of what we do, and it starts with a great organisational culture. I’m excited to start building our foundational team at Nyaal Banyul.

“Nyaal Banyul is more than a venue – it will be a space for creating meaningful connections and discovering new perspectives.”

Beyond senior roles at the convention centre, further positions will be up for grabs as the venue gets closer to opening.

The opening is currently set for July 2026 with event bookings open.
