The Radisson Blu Plaza Hotel located just blocks from Sydney Harbour will be rebranded from July 1, with a new brand entering the Australian market.

The 364-room hotel on O’Connell Street will become Paradox Sydney, joining Paradox Hotels & Resorts.

With the rebranding of the Radisson Blu in Sydney, Paradox will now have properties in five countries. Other Paradox hotels and resorts are located in Vancouver and Whistler, Canada, Phuket, Thailand, Kunshan, China and Singapore.

Across three different brands, Paradox will have seven properties in total once the Sydney hotel joins the hero Paradox brand.

While the Paradox brand is young – born in 2019 – it is owned by the same company that owns the Sydney property – TA Global, who has owned the hotel since 1997.

“Paradox is about creating places with soul – hotels that are deeply connected to the people, culture and pulse of the city,” said TA Global’s CEO and the mind behind the Paradox brand, Tiah Joo Kim.

“To debut in Australia at such a historic and meaningful heritage address is a major milestone for us. We look forward to bringing our signature blend of culture, creativity and authentic hospitality to this vibrant city.”

Once it transitions to the Paradox brand on July 1, the hotel will be “gradually refreshed” to the represent the Paradox brand, with the hotel remaining open throughout.

“Since 1856, this landmark building has been shaped by three great custodians: The Sydney Morning Herald, the Bank of New South Wales and Radisson Blu,” said Peter Tudehope, who has been general manager of the property under Radisson for more than 19 years and will continue to lead the hotel under Paradox.

“Each has contributed to its remarkable story. Today, as Paradox takes the helm, we are excited to write the next vibrant chapter that celebrates its heritage while forging a fresh and inspiring future.”

Alongside its 364 rooms, the Radisson Blu, soon to Paradox Sydney, has nine event spaces.

TA Global also owns The Westin in Melbourne.
