Queenstown Holiday Inn to transition to new brand

Holiday Inn Express & Suites Queenstown is set to convert to a higher brand within the IHG Hotels and Resorts portfolio.

The Holiday Inn property, which sits slightly back from the lakefront in Queenstown, will become voco Queenstown later this year.

The rebrand will be preceded by a revamp of the hotel’s meeting rooms and the addition of a private dining room, an outdoor dining space and a restaurant and bar.

The repositioning of the property comes after EVT started a new third-party hotel management arm, EVT Connect Hospitality, and acquired Pro-invest Group’s hotel management business, which includes the Queenstown hotel.

The move to upgrade the property is being made in part to make the hotel more appealing to the corporate market.

“This is a strategic repositioning of a great hotel into an even stronger proposition,” said IHG’s managing director for Australasia and the Pacific, Matt Tripolone.

“By working closely with Pro-invest Group and their operating partner EVT Connect Hospitality, we are aligning the right brand with the right asset and the right location – taking a long-term view to support sustainable returns.

“Conversions like this demonstrate how we partner with owners to maximise value through brand strength, commercial capability and efficient execution.”

There have been several developments in Queenstown’s hotel landscape over the last year that will see the destination’s accommodation offering elevated.

In September, the super boutique all-suite ROKI Collection Queenstown opened with 15 keys, followed by the opening of the 41-room Coronet Ridge Resort Queenstown in December.

In June 2025, a major expansion of QT Queenstown was announced, with the 152-room Rydges Lakeland Resort to be completely absorbed into the next-door QT, raising the room count under the more premium brand to 222 rooms. The conversion is expected to complete mid-next year.

And earlier this month, Queenstown was announced as the location for New Zealand’s first St. Regis hotel, with an opening slated for next year.
