Labelled a “strategic partnership”, all of the hotels currently under the Ovolo Hotels umbrella will move into the Wyndham portfolio, in a franchising arrangement that will see Ovolo Group continue to own and manage the five properties.
The Ovolo assets moving to Wyndham include more than 450 rooms and considerable event space.
The properties to be somewhat rebranded, as follows, under Wyndham are the 100-room Ovolo Woolloomooloo, a Wyndham Hotel in Sydney, the 103-room Ovolo The Valley, a Wyndham Hotel in Brisbane, the 123-room Ovolo South Yarra, a Wyndham Hotel in Melbourne, the 85-room Ovolo Nishi, a Wyndham Hotel in Canberra and the 41-room Ovolo Central, a Wyndham Hotel in Hong Kong.
“This partnership marks a significant milestone for Wyndham, further expanding our upscale presence in the Asia Pacific region by combining Ovolo’s strengths in the lifestyle segment with our extensive global network,” said Wyndham’s Asia Pacific president, Joon Aun Ooi.
“The future of travel isn’t about sameness – it’s about spaces with soul, brands with a point of view and experiences that don’t blur into the background.”
It appears the five assets that are part of the By Ovolo Collection in Melbourne, Canberra, Hong Kong and Bali are not part of the deal.
“Ovolo isn’t just a hotel brand, it’s a lifestyle, a creative force that fuses fashion, art, music and entertainment,” said Ovolo Group’s chief of staff, Shivang Jhunjhnuwala.
“Since 2010, we’ve built a bold, culture-led brand that disrupts the cookie-cutter hotel experience.
“Now through our partnership with Wyndham, we’re flipping the script to unlock bold new growth opportunities by franchising a lifestyle brand without diluting its DNA.
“Wyndham is a global leader in hotel franchising – with the scale, infrastructure and expertise to help us grow with intention and impact.
“Just as importantly, Ovolo brings something different – an edge and energy that complements Wyndham’s presence in the upscale lifestyle market.”
By number of properties, Wyndham is the largest hotel franchising company in the world, with around 8,300 hotels across the globe. Wyndham brands range from economy to lifestyle, upscale and distinctive.
The Ovolo Hotels joining Wyndham will benefit from integration into the company’s sales, marketing and distribution platforms, as well as becoming part of Wyndham’s loyalty program.
