While seven cities across South Australia, Victoria, Western Australia, Queensland and New South Wales will host matches, Sydney will be home to the biggest matches of the event, including both semi-finals, the third place match and the final.
The final will be held at Accor Stadium at Sydney Olympic Park.
With the tournament running in Australia from 1 October to 13 November 2027, conference organisers might find themselves squeezed for reasonably priced accommodation in Sydney towards the end of that period.
“With more games than any other state, NSW will be the home of the tournament, which means hundreds of thousands of fans will travel here and experience what our incredible state has to offer,” said the NSW tourism minister, John Graham.
“The stadiums and the streets of Sydney and Newcastle will be absolutely buzzing during the Men’s Rugby World Cup in 2027.
“Hosting world class events is a key part of our strategy to significantly grow the NSW visitor economy over the next ten years.
“My message to rugby fans around the world is – come for the rucks and mauls, stay for the food, the wine, the beaches and cultural experiences!” he said.
Destination NSW is anticipating a $610 million economic injection into the state from the 2027 event.
Overall, the Men’s Rugby World Cup is expected to draw more than 250,000 international visitors to Australia resulting in a $1.3 billion direct visitor spend.
Australia is also set to host the Women’s Rugby World Cup in 2029, after securing both events simultaneously in May 2022.
Across Australia, for the men’s event, Sydney will host 13 matches, Brisbane will host 10 matches, Melbourne will host nine matches, Perth will host seven matches, including the opening match, and Adelaide will host five matches, while Newcastle and Townsville will each host four.
