The new initiative brings together several events that had previously taken place throughout the year.
A survey of attendees at the Tourism Towards 2030 Conference showed 59 per cent were in favour of bringing together various events for the visitor economy, and alternating the location of a singular gathering between Darwin and Alice Springs.
Destination NT will begin with a public event spotlighting how tourism and events support economic development, community pride and the NT’s lifestyle. Day two will be a sector specific day to discuss opportunities in different parts of the visitor economy. An Aboriginal Tourism Forum will follow on day three, while day four will be the Destination NT Conference. The visitor economy extravaganza will wrap up with the Brolga Northern Territory Tourism Awards gala on the final day.
“We heard the message loud and clear: industry wants better opportunities to participate in a meaningful way,” said the NT’s tourism and hospitality minister, Marie-Clare Boothby.
“By consolidating key engagement into one dedicated week in one location, Destination NT makes it easier to be part of the conversation.”
Destination NT 2025 will be held in Darwin.
“This is a refreshed approach – it’s about government enabling business, not telling it how to operate. Tourism is central to rebuilding our economy and restoring our unique Territory lifestyle.
“We’re delivering on our year of action, certainty and security. This is about giving our visitor economy the platform it needs to thrive.”
Destination NT comes after the Country Liberal Party (CLP) came to power in the territory election last August.
The new government is also working to integrate Tourism NT and the Northern Territory Major Events Company for efficiency and to give the combined organisations greater impact.
