New head appointed for Tourism Port Douglas Daintree
Emma Tunnock has been chosen as the new executive officer for Tourism Port Douglas Daintree.

Tunnock comes to the regional tourism organisation from the Douglas Shire Council – the local council for Port Douglas – where she has worked for the last nearly four years, first as a digital marketing officer and then, for the majority of her tenure, as a tourism and economic development officer. During her most recent role, she was working closely with Tourism Port Douglas Daintree.

During her time with the council, Tunnock developed the region’s first investment prospectus, led a project on opportunities in the agricultural space and launched a brand campaign encouraging the purchase of locally made goods and services.

Previously she worked in marketing in the luxury watches space.

“This region holds immense potential, and I am committed to fostering strong collaborations and driving sustainable growth in our tourism industry,” said Tunnock of her new role.

Tunnock’s appointment comes after previous executive officer, Glen Hingley, stepped down after less than a year in the role. He has returned to the Northern Territory to take up a role with the chamber of commerce there.

Hingley’s predecessor, Tara Bennett, is now heading up the convention bureau for Cairns and the Great Barrier Reef.

“Emma’s experience and proven leadership make her the perfect choice to guide our organisation,” said the chair of Tourism Port Douglas Daintree, Cam Charlton.

“Her strategic vision and dedication to sustainable tourism will be invaluable as we continue to enhance our region’s appeal to both domestic and international visitors.”

Tunnock will begin her new role on July 23.
