In February, industry veteran John O’Shea took on the top job at the Sydney city centre hotel, which boasts plenty of rooms and plenty of meeting space in Sydney’s historic GPO building.
After more than a decade with the Hong Kong headquartered Langham Hospitality Group, including as the opening GM for The Langham, Gold Coast, O’Shea is now onboard with the Singapore-based Fullerton brand.
Altogether, O’Shea has more than forty years’ experience in the hospitality industry and has worked on major hotel opening and renovations across the Asia Pacific, including in China, Japan, Thailand, Malaysia and Fiji.
“I look forward to working with the talented Fullerton team and getting to know our loyal guests and visitors,” said O’Shea.
“I always say the best place for a hotel general manager is in the public areas, speaking with the guests, so front of house is where you are most likely to find me.”
“The Fullerton Hotel Sydney is a true landmark.
“I am fully prepared to meet all the exciting projects that are ahead, including the hotel room refurbishment set for the coming months, the celebration of the 150th anniversary of the stunning general post office building and more.
“I hope to continue the successful patterns established by the hotel leadership team.
“My goal is to further sustain The Fullerton Hotel Sydney’s leading reputation,” said O’Shea.
“Now is the perfect time to take on the role.”
With 416 rooms, the hotel also offers several significant meeting spaces, including the largest pillarless hotel ballroom in Sydney at 1,058m2, capable of hosting banquets for up to 1,000 attendees. Meanwhile, the hotel’s Heritage Ballroom, with its 11m high domed ceiling is an eye-catching space with capacity for galas of up to 250 attendees or 350 pax in theatre.
