Melbourne Convention Bureau (MCB) makes a key Asian appointment, Langham Hospitality Group promotes from within, plus other industry moves.

MCB appoints a regional director for North Asia and China

As Melbourne Convention Bureau looks to generate more event business for the city out of Asia, the bureau has appointed James Zheng as the regional director of North Asia and China.

Zheng was most recently a director in the Shanghai office of Los Angeles Tourism and Conventions Board and has also been deputy director at Shanghai International Conference Management Organisation, promoting Shanghai internationally as a business events destination.

“James’ experience, especially in incentive program development, international association conferences, event management and business events destination marketing, will be a strong asset to MCB’s presence in China,” said MCB’s chief executive, Julia Swanson.

MCB has had an in-market presence in China for over 18 years.

“With the full support of the renowned ‘Team Melbourne’, I will spare no efforts to help and support the associations, corporate meeting and incentive event planners to hold their business event in Melbourne and bring inspiring and exciting moments to every client and each participant,” said Zheng.

Zheng will continue to be based in Shanghai.

André Jacques has been promoted at Langham Hospitality Group

Langham Hospitality Group promotes André Jacques

The Langham Melbourne’s head of sales and marketing, André Jacques, has become the regional director of marketing in the Pacific for the hotel group.

Jacques’ new role has him overseeing marketing efforts for The Langham, Melbourne, The Langham, Sydney, The Langham, Gold Coast and Cordis, Auckland. He will also continue to lead the sales and marketing team at The Langham, Melbourne.

Jacques has been with The Langham, Melbourne for over nine years.

“André’s impressive track record and unwavering commitment to excellence make him the ideal leader for our marketing endeavours in the Pacific region,” said Jeffrey van Vorsselen, regional vice president of operations in the Pacific for Langham Hospitality Group.

“We are confident that under his guidance, our hotels will continue to flourish and deliver exceptional experiences to our guests.”

Tomasina Boone has joined Club Med

Club Med appoints new business development manager

Tomasina Boone has joined all-inclusive resort specialist Club Med as its new Pacific business development manager for business events.

Boone comes to the role with extensive sales and business development experience, having most recently worked with American Express in commercial card sales.

“Club Med has experienced significant growth within its MICE sector with more and more Australian and New Zealand businesses prioritising the positive impact human connection has on employee performance,” said Michelle Davies, general manager for Club Med Pacific.

“Tommy’s arrival will be instrumental in strengthening the MICE sector of our business, capitalising on our success so far and reinforcing our unique offering to both current and prospectus clients.

Bruno Cristol is the new general manager of InterContinental Bali Resort

InterContinental Bali’s new general manager

InterContinental Bali has welcomed Bruno Cristol as its new general manager.

Prior to joining the Bali property, Cristol was area general manager of IHG Singapore and general manager of Crowne Plaza Changi Airport.

Starting his hospitality career as a chef, Cristol has worked in Australia at Shangri-La properties in Sydney and Cairns, as well as holding positions within other hotel brands in Australia and Asia.

“We are thrilled to welcome Bruno as the new General Manager of the resort,” said director of IHG operations for Indonesia, Anil Pathak.

“His proven track record of success, coupled with his passion for hospitality and commitment to excellence, make him an invaluable addition to our team.
