Troy Williams has joined the executive team of Christchurch’s convention centre.

Williams joins Te Pae Christchurch from Dunedin Venue Management where he was asset and compliance manager.

His role in Dunedin had him overseeing asset management, sustainability and safety at Forsyth Barr Stadium and Dunedin Town Hall, which have hosted international concerts and international football matches alongside conventions and meetings.

Williams also has experience in managing major infrastructure and buildings in the manufacturing sector.

“We’re extremely pleased to welcome someone of Troy’s calibre to Te Pae Christchurch and look forward to incorporating his strong focus on performance, service and delivery into our dynamic building services team,” said Te Pae Christchurch’s general manager, Ross Steele.

Williams began his new role on Monday.

“There is a real buzz in the air here with an amazing venue and great people,” said Williams.

Dave Baswal to step down at Ovolo Hotels

Ovolo Hotels’ CEO Dave Baswal will leave the business at the end of September.

Baswal joined Ovolo in 2016, and has held several roles with the company, including as director of finance and operations for Australia, COO, CFO and managing director. He became the CEO in 2022.

“I am immensely grateful for the opportunity to have led and grow Ovolo during a transformative period in its history,” said Baswal.

“I leave with deep admiration for the dedication and creative passion of our team members, whose commitment has been pivotal in achieving our collective successes, to connect with our guest[s] emotionally and truly do things differently.”

With Baswal’s departure, Ovolo’s founder, Girish Jhunjhnuwala, will step back into the CEO role, in addition to continuing as the company’s executive chair.

“We extend our deepest gratitude to Dave for his significant contributions and unwavering dedication to Ovolo,” said Jhunjhnuwala.

“Under his leadership, Ovolo has maintained its position as a leader and disrupter in the hospitality sector, and we wish him the very best in his future endeavours.”
