Meg Walker to bring decades of experience to ASM Global

Venue management company ASM Global has appointed Meg Walker as its new group director of arena operations, following the departure – and career change – of Tim Worton.

Joining ASM Global from a role with Live Nation, Walker spent over 20 years with Melbourne and Olympic Parks, rising from the CEO’s personal assistant to the general manager of Rod Laver Arena.

At ASM Global, she will oversee the company’s arenas under management in Australia, which include Qudos Bank Arena at Sydney Olympic Park, RAC Arena in Perth and Cairns Arena, as well as supporting ASM Global arenas across the region. Event acquisition and operational planning are key focusses of her role.

“The depth and scale of Meg’s experience in the operation of major events and live entertainment is the perfect fit to lead our portfolio of world class arenas, frequently featured in Billboard, Pollstar and Rolling Stone,” said ASM Global’s APAC chair and chief executive, Harvey Lister AM.

“Both Meg Walker and Tim Worton have long been recognised as legends in the industry and we are so fortunate to be the recipients of their expertise and professionalism as part of our management team.

“Meg has proven to be an accomplished event professional with strategic and collaborative leadership skills.”

Walker will join ASM Global on October 10.

Phillipa Harrison has been reappointed as managing director at Tourism Australia

Tourism Australia managing director reappointed

Tourism Australia’s board has unanimously voted to keep managing director Phillipa Harrison in the top job at Australia’s tourism marketing agency.

Harrison became Tourism Australia’s first female leader in 2019 and has seen the agency through the challenges of the pandemic and the subsequent recovery.

Australia’s federal tourism minister, Don Farrell, welcomed the reappointment of Harrison.

“Throughout the devastation of the bushfires and the global pandemic Ms Harrison showed exceptional leadership, advocating for and working closely with the sector,” he said in a media statement this morning.

“Under Ms Harrison’s ongoing leadership, I am confident Tourism Australia will continue to do what they do best, encouraging more international visitors to experience our abundant natural beauty, wonderful experiences and world-class food and wine.”
