Saltbox opened both quietly and with a bang, with its first event a high-profile, multi-day luxury fashion event in May. It also hosted the launch of furniture hire company Valiant’s carbon calculator in early June, which micenet attended.
A venue preview for planners took place in the second half of June before the official opening was announced last week.
Saltbox sits within Wunderlich Lane at the end of bustling Crown St in Surry Hills. The Eve Hotel, which opened in February, sits opposite Saltbox, providing easy accommodation options for event attendees from out of town.
The largest space within Saltbox is The Box, a pillarless space with floor to ceiling windows offering plenty of natural light. The Box can seat 240 delegates on round tables, host 300 in theatre or 400 for stand up events.
The venue also offers two small suites which both sit beside a long outdoor all-weather terrace and can be joined together to form one long room that can also be connected to The Box and used as an arrivals space. The first suite can seat 24 in boardroom configuration or 60 in theatre. The second suite can seat 18 in a boardroom setting or 36 in theatre. Combined the two suites can seat 96 in theatre or cater to 120 for a cocktail event.
With the in-house AV supplied by Avionic Event Production, the culinary offering at Saltbox is helmed exclusively by catering company Cook and Waiter.
The venue’s menus feature responsibly sourced local produce and offer moveable feasts with the likes of two different cheese trolleys, a steak tartare trolley and a petit four trolley.
“Extraordinary flavours, artful presentation and experiences that are elevated in every way are at the heart of everything we do,” said Cook and Waiter’s owner, David O’Brien.
“Saltbox is the exclusive dedicated entertaining venue at Wunderlich Lane, where it acts as an extension of a world-class collective of hotel, hospitality and boutique innovators – offering a premium, compelling and convenient location to host a memorable occasion in Sydney,” he said.
The venue was heavily booked through June and July.
