The Lands by Capella near Sydney Harbour will open its event spaces in February 2026.

Set in the heritage Department of Lands building, The Lands by Capella will offer five event spaces, including the 536m2 Capella Ballroom with 4.6m high ceilings which can host events of up to 400 attendees standing.

Another smaller ballroom, the Liberty Ballroom, offers capacity for events with up to 250 attendees across 353m2.

There are three other event “suites” ranging from 79m2 to 156m2 – The Botanist, The Surveyors and The Explorers – which complete the events offering at The Lands by Capella.

All event spaces are on level two of the building and will open on February 2 next year.

The Lands by Capella sits across Loftus St from the affiliated 192-room hotel, Capella Sydney.

“We are proud to reintroduce this iconic building to Sydney in a way that honours its past and redefines its future,” said Capella Sydney’s general manager, Marc von Arnim.

“There is nothing else like this in Australia – a collection of event spaces that balance heritage and luxury with such care and refinement.

“The early response to bookings reflects the appetite for something truly special – we’re thrilled to bring that to life.”

Other elements of The Lands by Capella will open throughout 2026 – in all the building will offer more than 10,000m2 of space for restaurants, bars, retail, cultural activations and an exclusive members club, which will be one of the first parts of the building beyond the event spaces to open, also in February.

Last week, Capella Sydney was voted 12th on the list of the World’s 50 Best Hotels, making its debut on the list as the highest ranked Australian hotel, following the property’s opening in 2023.
