Tourism New Zealand has a new business development manager in its business events team, while luxury hotel in Auckland The Hotel Britomart has appointed a new head of sales.

Wendy Desiles has joined the business events team at Tourism New Zealand as a business development manager, bringing over 15 years of experience in tourism and business events to New Zealand’s tourism agency.

Most recently, Desiles was a BDM for Destination Marlborough’s business events offering, finding new opportunities for the region at the north-eastern tip of New Zealand’s South Island. She has also managed an event venue in England amongst other tourism and business events experience.

I’ve worked with the Tourism New Zealand team in my past roles and it’s great to join them and help promote the country as a whole,” said Desiles.

“It’s a really exciting time, with three new convention centres coming onboard, and I look forward to promoting New Zealand’s excellent Business Events offering internationally.”

Desiles will be based in New Zealand’s capital Wellington and be focussed primarily on identifying international association meeting opportunities for New Zealand.

Meanwhile in Auckland, luxury property, The Hotel Britomart has appointed Jamie Swan as its head of sales.

Swan joins the hotel from APX Travel Management, also based in Auckland, where she was head of government for the corporate travel business. She has extensive experience in marketing, representation and sales with major international airlines as well as experience in business events for Abu Dhabi Tourism and Culture Authority, through representation agency The Walshe Group.

“Jamie’s extensive experience in the travel industry and proven track record in key account management across New Zealand and Australia make her a valuable addition to our team,” said The Hotel Britomart’s general manager Clinton Farley.

“As we look ahead to the coming months and the travel industry continues to rebound, we are incredibly excited, and look forward to Jamie playing a pivotal role in supporting our ongoing success.”

The hotel has five boutique event spaces for up to 70 delegates, 99 rooms and five Landing Suites.
